Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy — ClarifyMe

Effective date: 5th July 2026.

ClarifyMe was built for one person first — someone we love who has dysarthria — and privacy wasn't an afterthought. It was a design requirement. The simplest way to say it:

ClarifyMe does not collect, store, transmit, or share any of your data. Everything happens on your device.

Here's the longer version.

What the app does with your speech

When you speak to ClarifyMe, three things happen — all of them on your iPhone or iPad, none of them over the internet:

1. Your speech is transcribed on your device, using speech-recognition software built into the app.

2. The transcript is clarified on your device, using Apple's on-device intelligence. Your voice and your words are never sent to us, to Apple's servers, or to anyone else.

3. The clarified words are spoken aloud on your device, using Apple's built-in voices — including your own Personal Voice, if you've set one up in iOS.

The app works entirely offline. You can use it in airplane mode. There is no account to create, no sign-in, and no server on our end that could hold your data, because we don't have one.

What stays on your device

To get better at understanding you over time, ClarifyMe can keep some information — but only locally, on your device:

- Your saved phrases and personal words (names, places, things you say often)

- Correction recordings — if the app misunderstands you and you correct it, it may keep a short recording of that utterance and the corrected text, so the app can be improved for your voice

This information never leaves your device unless you choose to export it, using the export feature in Settings. You can view how much is stored and delete all of it at any time from Settings. We built this facilty so that we can feed the model examples of what it gets wrong so it can learn better.

If you delete the app, all of this information is deleted with it.

What we collect

Nothing. ClarifyMe contains:

- No analytics

- No advertising

- No tracking

- No crash-reporting services

- No third-party SDKs that phone home

- No accounts or sign-in

Our App Store listing says "Data Not Collected" because that is exactly true.

Permissions the app asks for

- Microphone — to hear your speech so it can be clarified and spoken aloud. Audio is processed on the device and is not transmitted anywhere.

- Speech recognition — iOS requires this permission for apps that transcribe speech, even when (as here) transcription happens entirely on the device.

- Personal Voice (optional) — if you grant it, the app can speak using the Personal Voice you created in iOS Settings. Your Personal Voice never leaves your device.

You can withdraw any of these permissions at any time in iOS Settings; the app will fall back gracefully where it can.

Children

ClarifyMe is suitable for all ages. Because the app collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

Legal bits

Because ClarifyMe does not collect or process personal data on our systems, there is no data for us to hold, share, sell, or lose. To the extent UK GDPR applies at all, all processing takes place on your own device under your control. If you have questions about this policy or believe something in the app doesn't behave as described here, please contact us — we take that seriously.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app changes how it handles your data — for example, an optional online feature — we will update this policy before releasing it and make the change obvious, not buried.
